Zwick makes a huge impact for China Petroleum
Zwick has received an order from China Petroleum Materials Corporation in Xi’an China for the largest pendulum impact tester ever built. At over 6.5 metres high and with a foundation weight of 80 tonnes the 50,000 J tester will be used for test on oil pipeline materials according to ASTM E436-71T and API RP5L3.
One of the deciding factors for choosing Zwick was their ability to provide technical support in Design, and Engineering. In addition the machine will have a special safety enclosure and a sophisticated electronic interlock system to protect the operator from the swinging pendulum which is 2.1metres long and has a weight of 2 tonnes. The pendulum can be released from any angle and 4 brake cylinders are used to stop the swinging pendulum after the specimen impact and return it to the start position.
The impact tester will also carry out tests at temperatures between ambient and -70 ºC and will be supplied with a specimen feeding magazine to speed up test throughput
